The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) organized an educational program on substance abuse at the Northern Cluster of Schools, comprising Lekma 2, 5, 11, 12, and Teshie Nungua T/N JHS, on Thursday, July 23, 2025.
The program featured Hon. Israel Adjetey Otchwemah, the MCE of Ledzokuku Municipal, as one of the resource persons.
Hon. Israel Adjetey Otchwemah, emphasized the detrimental effects of substance abuse such as leading to physical, mental, and emotional distress, as well as adverse effects on health, behavior, relationships, and overall well-being.
The Hon. MCE, further advised students to stay away from drugs during the long vacation and avoid bad peer groups, be aware of the risks and consequences of substance abuse, including health complications, addiction, and legal issues and finally, develop healthy coping mechanisms and seek support from family and friends.

– Madam Regina Adeti,- Assistant Director of NCCE Ledzokuku, encouraged students to learn about the risks and consequences of drug abuse, surround themselves with positive influences, and find healthy ways to manage stress and emotions.
– Joshua Akinwale, Civic Education Officer, urged students to reach out to trusted adults if they’re struggling with substance abuse or addiction and emphasized that seeking help is crucial, as substance abuse can be life-threatening.
– Madam Genevieve Baku, Principal Civic Education Officer, encouraged students to prioritize their future by avoiding drug abuse, which can have long-term consequences that impact their goals and aspirations.
– Madam Gifty Amedzro, Civic Education Officer, cautioned students to be mindful of the dangers of substance abuse, including alcohol, prescription drugs, illicit drugs, and cannabis.
– Madam Fatima Shaibu, Assistant Civic Education Officer, motivated students to build strong relationships with family and friends who support and encourage healthy choices.
