LEKMA HOSPITAL HOLDS HEALTH SYPMPOSIUM AND HEALTH SCREENING AT LEDZOKUKU MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY .

LeKMA Hospital in collaboration with the Hon. MCE for LeKMA, Mr. Israel Adjetey Otchwenmah and the MCD, Mrs. Rhodaline Adwoa Conduah, as part of its 15 years anniversary held a health symposium and health screening for staff of Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, 27th January, 2026 at the Assembly’s Car Park.

The Health symposium started with a talk from Dr. Mohammed Kudus, a Physician Specialist. He touched on Non Communicable Diseases(NCD), spoke about types of NCD’s and the global data on it according to WHO. He gave some common risk factors which included tobacco, unhealthy diet, alcohol, physical inactivity. He also explained some major types of NCD’s and the major complications that they come with.

Mrs. Habiba Yussif, a Principal Dietician continued by explaining where most of the non communicable diseases come from. She emphasized on changing our lifestyle by looking at what we eat, drink and what is found on our plates. In order to change our lifestyle she advised that we aim at starting from the younger ones. We should exclusively breastfeed our babies for 6 months, complementary feed them after 6 months and introduce the 4 star diet to them. She encouraged staff to reduce their salt and sugar intake and taught them how to eat their food in portions and also eat a well balanced diet.

The last presentation was done by Ms. Bridget Numarce, a Deputy Chief Physiotherapist. She mentioned that research shows that sitting down for a long time was the same as smoking. She spoke about back pain, its causes and those that experience it the most. She also spoke about the risk factors of back pain, exercise therapy that can be done.
She did a demonstration on some self management exercises that can be done and also some sleep positions good for the back.

The Municipal Co-Ordinating Director gave the closing remarks on behalf of the MCE. She advised everyone present to work with everything that the speakers said.

The program ended with health screening for tuberculosis which everyone present was screened.
