HON. ISRAEL ADJETEY OTCHWEEMAH (MCE-LEKMA) HOLDS MEETING WITH ELDERS OF THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST AND HEADS OF CLANS

The Hon. MCE for LekMA, Mr Israel Adjetey Otchweemah, together with the Physical Planning Director for LekMA(Mrs Gladys Adwoa Muquah), Deputy Director (Mr. Eric Awuah), Mad. Doris Lawoe( Mun. Env. health Officer), Hon. Presiding Member (PM), Mr. Samuel Kwashie Tawiah, Police Commander and some assemblymen met with elders of the Church of Pentecost and some clan leaders and members on Thursday, 11th December , 2025 at Assembly Hall of the Municipal Assembly.

The meeting sought to address issues regarding the fence wall put up by the Church of Pentecost at the Teshie Cemetery .

Mr. Botchway, one of the elders of the Pentecost church explained that the church decided to fence the part of the cemetery allocated to them because it was always covered in filth making it difficult for them to bury their members. He later explained they got permission to do so from one of the clan leaders and that they didn’t get permit from the Assembly to do the fence and also didn’t have any proper documentation.

Mr. Nii Adjei Klu, a certified journalist explained that the Pentecostal churches had been assigned a portion of the cemetery and no individual could give it out since it belonged to the community

Nii Jaasetse recommended that the cemetery should be handed over to assembly for proper fencing and maintenance.

The elders of the church of Pentecost and the clan leaders all accepted and agreed that the Municipal Assembly takes charge of the fencing works at the cemetery.

The Hon. MCE added that the Assembly will take over and work directly with all stakeholders involved with regards to the cemetery.

The Municipal Physical Planning Officer showed members present at the meeting the site plan of the cemetery. She advised that all parties participate during visitation to the cemetery as properties and settlements that aren’t properly situated in the plan will be demolished. All members agreed to this.

Hon. MCE informed all members present that they will be invited on a different date to visit the cemetery.
