On August 17th and 18th, 2023, Ledzokuku witnessed a significant stride towards resilience against disasters. Two new Disaster Volunteer Groups (DVGS) were inaugurated, marking a pivotal moment in community-led disaster risk reduction.
These groups, composed of dedicated local volunteers, underwent intensive training to become adept at identifying risks, implementing prevention strategies, and leading response efforts. The training covered:
- Risk assessment techniques.
- Effective communication during disasters.
- First aid and emergency response protocols.
The inauguration of these DVGS is more than just an event; it’s a commitment by the people of Ledzokuku to take charge of their safety and well-being. These volunteers are not just responders; they are educators, innovators, and advocates for a safer community.
