1.0       Introduction

Protein- energy malnutrition result from food insufficiency as well as from poor social and economic conditions. Malnutrition originates from a cellular difference between nutrient/energy supply and the body’s demand to ensure growth maintenance. Dietary energy and  protein deficiencies usually occur together, although one sometimes outweighs the other and if severe enough, may lead to the clinical syndrome of kwashiorkor (predominant protein deficiency) or marasmus (mainly energy deficiency) (O.E. Adelakum et al.,: 2013).

 (I) Image of participants

Food fortification is broadly aimed to allow all people to obtain all the energy, macro-and micronutrients they need to enjoy a healthy and productive life from their diet. In many developing nations including Africa, cereal based foods are widely utilized as food and as dietary staples for adults and weaning foods for infants. Food fortification is one important step in making sure populations gain a balanced diet. It helps to fill micronutrient gaps where populations struggle to access nutritious foods, which is especially important as population grow, live in more urban areas, and consume more processed foods rather than freshly grown foods.

Malnutrition among farmers and fishfolks is significant due to financial constraint in view of this, WIAD at the department of agriculture found it necessary to train the farmers on how to fortify their traditional delicacies with soybeans to reduce the cost of animal protein and improve balance diet consumption.

The main objective of this training is to address malnutrition and to cut down cost of purchase on animal protein.

The resource person trained the participants on the following topics.

2.0       Soybeans

Legumes are one of the world’s most important sources of food supply especially in the developing countries in terms of food, energy as well as nutrients. It has been recognized as an important source of protein and in some cases oil. As a legume, soybeans are an important global crop that provides oil and protein for users. It is the richest sources of protein among the plant foods.

The seeds vary in shape and colour depending on the cultivar. In shape, they can be spherical to flatten while the colour varies from white, yellow and brown to black. It chemical composition on an average dry matter basis is about 40% of protein and 20%of oil (O.E. Adelakum et al.,: 2013).

3.0       Nutritional value of soybeans

Soybean contains all the essential amino acids, similar to those found in meat. Soybean also contains phospholipids, vitamins and minerals. Furthermore, it is high in fiber and phytoestrogens, low in saturated fat, cholesterol and lactose free and a good source of omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants.

4.0       Utilization of soybeans

Soybeans can be processed into soy milk, soy curds, and cheese. It is also used to produce soy sauce use comprehensively in cooking and as a sauce. Soybean are also used for candies and ice cream and soybean flour which could be mixed with wheat flour to produce a wide variety of baked goods such as bread and biscuits. Soybean oil is used for edible purposes, particularly as a cooking, and salad oil and for manufacture of margarine.

5.0       Practical Demonstration of traditional delicacy with soybeans

The participants were taken through the three food groups which are Body Building Foods (animal and bean products), Energy Foods (starchy foods and sugars) and Protective Foods (fruits and vegetables) and were advised to consume fruits daily.

The farmers were engaged in cooking various types of foods which were fortified with soybeans. The following foods were fortified with soybean;

  • Banku
  • Palava sauce
  • Okro stew
  • Gravy

(ii) resource persons educating the participants

The participants were also taught how to prepare soy milk. They were advised to incorporate soy beans in their meals in order to attain a balanced diet.

6.0       Conclusion

The training was successful, well attended and participated. Farmers really interacted and learnt a lot from the training. The total number of participants was Seven-five (75) made up of Twenty-two (22) males and Fifty-five (55) females.

Soy beans can be promoted because of its positive effect on nutritional enhancement on different fortified food products.

HONOURABLE BENJAMIN AYIKU NARTEH GIVES SPEECH ON THE CELEBRATION OF 2021’S ‘FARMERS DAY’

HONOURABLE BENJAMIN AYIKU NARTEH’S SPEECH ON THE CELEBRATION OF ‘FARMERS DAY’ ON DECEMBER 3RD, 2021
Good morning, Chairperson, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Mordecai Quashie, Nii M333, Naa M333,our hardworking farmers, distinguished colleagues, ladies, and gentlemen, all protocols duly observed.
I am delighted to be here this morning, and to be in the company of the men and women whose everyday labour feeds us, keeps us alive, and contributes significantly to the growth of our nation. We cannot fulfil the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 2, which asks us to develop sustainable solutions to eradicate hunger in all its manifestations by 2030, ensure food security, and enhance nutrition, without the labour of our farmers and fisherfolk.
With agriculture employing the majority of Ghanaians, a day set aside to commemorate their accomplishments is well-deserved and let me encourage our farmers and fisher-folk of my continuous support and solidarity with them.
Ladies and gentlemen, the subject for this year’s celebration, “Planting for Food and Jobs: Consolidating Food Systems in Ghana,” puts a responsibility on all of us to work together to guarantee that all resources are available to enhance food systems in the nation. Prior to 2017, the sector’s performance has been unpredictable, with a 0.8 percent growth rate in 2011, one of the lowest in contemporary times. It improved, marginally, to 3.1 percent in 2016, and no finer narrative could be told. This might be related to the insufficiency of modern agricultural techniques, indicating the need for us all to work together to improve food production in Ghana.
However, this is not the major reason we have convened here today
The major purpose for our convening here today is to honour and thank the hardworking farmers of our constituency. As the one famous person said, “if you ate today, thank a farmer and a fisherman,” and I personally want to thank the farmers and our fisherfolks of the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly for their hard work and dedication
Gentlemen and Ladies, I want for all of us here to pause for a minute of silence to remember our friends and family who have died at sea in the last year. May their souls rest in perfect peace.
I want to stress that I am aware of some of the difficulties that farmers and fisherfolk have in carrying out their responsibilities in this constituency, particularly the fisher men. I use this opportunity to convey my condolences to the families who have lost loved ones to the Teshie Landing beach, the Sangonaa. I want to assureall of us gathered here today, that I have initiated the necessary steps, by filing a question to the minister responsible for TRANSPORT, regards concerns over the positioning of the breakwater project at the Sangonaa. With the hope that he can provide answers that should address the concerns of the people.
Let me repeat that no one, especially our fisher folks, no one must lose a life on the sea. It is a disaster that should not have happened and we shall do everything possible to prevent any future occurrence.(REPEAT AGAIN)
I’d like to conclude by thanking and applauding our farmers and fishermen of Ledzokuku their outstanding response to the Government’s “Planting for Food and Jobs” campaign. An effort that has allowed our nation to not only expand food production, but also to export food to our neighbours for the first time in a long time. I encourage all partners to continue to collaborate closely with the government to ensure that the agriculture sector’s potential is fully realized for the benefit of the people of our nation. We will continue to work hard to restore agriculture’s pride of place in the nation and to guarantee that our farmers and fisherfolk are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. As a result, I am calling for even more support for this project and other agricultural initiatives as they develop
I must repeat what an honour it is to have been present today to address this great gathering and I thank you all for having me. May God bless our famers and fisherfolk, and may God bless us all, and our homeland Ghana, and make her great and strong.
Thank you

The Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly has inaugurated a 9 member HIV/AIDS committee as required by the Ghana AIDS commission, act, 2016 an act of parliament.
The Ghana AIDS commission has adopted the United Nation (UN) sustainable development goal 3 to end AIDS infection by 2030. It is against this background that the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly has constituted a 9 member HIV/AIDS committee to perform the functions of the aids commission and the regional coordinating council within the Municipality.

However, the Municipal Health Directorate has been facing challenges such as lack of funding for monitoring, lack of training of staff as well as lack of ARTs in some of the facilities.
The Municipal Health Director, also a member of the Ledzokuku HIV/AIDS committee, Ms. Jacqueline Sfarijlani, is therefore hopeful that the mandate and activities of the committee would go a long way to address the challenges affecting the Municipality in the management of HIV/AIDS.

Once again, another year has come, last year the First Lady Mrs. Rebecca Akufo Addo was here to do the presentation of food items for the Homowo Festival on behalf of the President, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the Government of Ghana. This year, we are fortunate to have another GaDangme royal in the person of Hon. Henry Quartey, the
Greater Accra Regional Minister together with the Assembly to do the presentation on behalf of the President and the Government of Ghana. Honourable Minister, oba kℇ nine kome, wƆ mli herebo kℇ nijii enyƆ welcome you to Teshie.
PEACE AND UNITY IN TESHIE
Teshie has been relatively peaceful till a few months ago.
Last week Monday, the rites for the Gbemlilaa was performed. As I speak now the ban on noise making and drumming has taken effect. However, the performing of this rite was done amidst tension and confusion. The large contingent of heavily armed Policemen that was deployed for this short ceremony to prevent possible clashes between the two factions in the Wulomo dispute, though was a positive move, at the same time, it marred
the beauty of this Gbemlilaa Ceremony. It has also put fear in the citizens as a result of “Landguards” that was deployed during the Gbemlilaa.
Hon. Minister, I am, therefore, appealing to the Regional Coordinating Council, the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, the Judiciary and other Stakeholders to help resolve the numerous disputes in the Teshie Traditional set up. As the MCE this appeal is very dear to my heart and I wish and hope, that by next year Homowo, all the disputes would be resolved.
At this stage, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Teshie Mantse, Gbetsoolor Nii Ashitey Akomfra III restraining the other faction.
Otherwise, the calamity that would have befallen this town can never be told.
Thank you, Nii Gbetsoolor, indeed you have shown the way to peace.
COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Some few weeks ago, the President spoke to the Nation about the rise in infection of the new Delta Covid-19 Variant. As a result, the Regional Coordinating Council has tasked all MMDA’S in the Greater Accra Region to enforce the observance of all the protocols to stop the spread of the virus. The Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, has since the outbreak of the pandemic, distributed enough face masks, hand sanitizers, Veronica buckets and bowls, soaps and paper tissues to Schools, Markets, Churches,
Mosques, Lorry and Taxi Stations, Traditional Council and the General Public.
The Assembly has already embarked with the implementation and enforcement of the protocols. The Municipal Information Department has
routinely been educating the Public using radio and our information vans. Soon arrest and prosecution will start.
Within the past few weeks, there has been an outbreak of two deadly human viral disease-the Ebola in Ivory Coast and the Marburg Guinea all in West Africa. The symptoms are similar and are shown by fever and weakness. There is no treatment, therefore, its very fatal. The only way to prevent infection is by avoiding direct contact with bodily fluids of individual infected with the disease.
I am therefore, appealing to the general public to report persons with suspected symptoms to the nearest Health Facility to avoid widespread infection to the general public.
At this stage, I am making a passionate appeal to all residents in the Municipality to strictly abide by the Covid-19 protocols (vaccination) as we all know to prevent the spread of the virus and save lives.
SANITATION
Under the auspices of the GAMA Project, the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly provided a total of 600 household toilets in the year 2020 for the residents of Teshie. The project is on-going and a good number of beneficiaries have requested for household toilets to be constructed for them. Without doubt, this exercise has reduced the incidence of open defecation drastically in most affected places in the Municipality.
I also extend my appreciation to Religious bodies, Civil Society Organizations and Community-based Organizations (CBOs) who collaborate with the Assembly in organizing clean-up campaigns on various occasions.
I welcome you all to the presentation of food items to Chief and People Teshie for this year’s Homowo.
Afioo afi !!!

Security arrangements have been made for the Gbemlinlaa and kpokpoishwamor.

Yes indeed, Security arrangements have been made for the Gbemlinlaa and kpokpoishwamor. It’s rather unfortunate that this incident has brought shame to all Teshimei, irrespective of where you are located on this globe.
On the Tuesday, 27th August, the MUSEC met the following at the LeKMA Assembly Hall –
1. Reps from Nuumo Badu Odaano Odiapenser I
2. Reps from Nuumo Adjei Sankuma III.
(The above two are litigating over who is the rightful Wulomo)
3. Reps from the Teshie Mantse, Gbetsoolor Nii Ashitey Akomfra III.
4. The Head of Family, Ashia-we
5. Nii Cantreph alias Omega (a Tsie-we Elder)
The MCE, MCD, Police, Military, Fire Service, NADMO, BNI and other Directors were all present at this very important meeting.
I will not go too much into what transpired in the meeting, but these are decisions that were taken –
1. None of the two claimants to the Wulomo position would be allowed to perform the Gbemlinlaa on Monday, 9th August, 2021.
2. The Ashia-we Elders would solely perform the Gbemlinlaa.
(The above is a repeat of the decisions taken in 2019 for Gbemlinlaa)
*None of the claimants objected to the decisions taken by the MUSEC*
With regards to the rites performed at beach, none of the two prevented each other. Both performed after the other. There were no confrontations.
Yesterday’s clashes occurred after both factions had done their rites and had left the Sangonaa beach. During the meeting, both had indicated, that there would peace during the two rites at the beach and indeed they honoured their promise.
The clashes happened after the end of the rites in the late afternoon.
MUSEC anticipates, that the Gbemlinlaa, being an outdoor event can be explosive, even though both factions have been banned. As a result adequate security measures, including military backup have been put in place by the MUSEC chaired by the MCE, Hon Evelyn Naa Adjeley Twum-Gyamrah.
Teshimei, let’s pray for our dear town. This is not the time for the blame game but rather let us all rally behind our three Heads in Teshie – the Chief, MCE and the MP, that the trio, with our support and prayers can bring a definite end to the deteriorating reputation of Teshie.

The Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) in collaboration with the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly is leaving no stone unturned with regard to vital engagements with stakeholders to promote and ensure a peaceful environment for this year’s Homowo Celebration.

The Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) in collaboration with the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly is leaving no stone unturned with regard to vital engagements with stakeholders to promote and ensure a peaceful environment for this year’s Homowo Celebration.
To this end, it called on flag group leaders to make peace and security a priority prior to the Gbemlilaa, a traditional rite that precedes activities to earmark the celebration.
In attendance were the Municipal Chief Executive Mrs. Evlyn Naa Adjeley Twum-Gyamerah and the Coordinating Director. Also present were the security heads, that is the Greater Accra Regional Dep.Police Commander, Regional Police CID, Kpeeshi Divisional Commander, Teshie Military Command, and the convenor for the annual Homowo stakeholders meeting, Mr. Clement Kommey.
The Regional Commander cautioned individuals and groups who are used to perpetuating violence to desist from it and rather give peace a chance.
On his part, the Divisional Commander, urged the leaders to encourage their members to observe the COVID protocols, most especially the wearing of nose masks during the Kpashimo.
The Military command also used the occasion to appeal to the groups to desist from wearing military uniforms in their moments of celebration, reminding them that it is a serious offense punishable by law.
The Municipal Chief Executive advised the groups to bring back the love, pomp and pageantry that characterize such celebrations and also adhere to security protocols for the celebration. She reiterated the arrangement for the Gbemlilaa and called on all stakeholders to support the Ashia-We to perform the needed rites in anticipation of a successful celebration.
The people were thrilled with Homowo songs by Azin Kotoku and Kane.

In respect to defiant acts and nefarious activities, Management has collaborated with the Police Service and demolished several structures that were being used as hideouts and play grounds for miscreants and prostitutes alike.
I wish to state that prior to that exercise, the activities of the miscreants and prostitutes posed serious security threat to the rest of the populace as reports of pickpocketing mobile phones and car snatching by prostitutes and their accomplices were constantly being lodged at the Teshie Police Station.
Cases of armed robbery have reduced to the barest minimum, while traffic situation on the main roads notwithstanding the ongoing major road construction have improved tremendously. There has been supply and installation of 11pieces of 10m galvanized steel poles and maintenance of 20 street lights in the Municipality to ensure that dark spots and flash points in the Municipality are provided with lights in order to deter miscreants from engaging in their nefarious activities.
Security agencies, particularly the Police High Command have remained vigilant and have been able to deal with the myriad of cases that have been reported. I wish to commend the security agencies for ensuring the safety of residents in the Municipality. I also wish to assure this august house that Management would continue to support the security agencies to discharge their duties efficiently and effectively.

 Review meetings with commissioned collectors to set realistic targets.
 Enhance logistics required for the distribution of bills.
 Identification and analysis of the causes of low collection of property rate.
 Training of revenue mobilization task force/staff
 Meetings with rate payers to build consensus on rate
 Public education on revenue collection
PRIVATE SECTOR PARTICIPATION IN REV. MOBILIZATION
Hon. Presiding Member, as part of efforts to increase revenue mobilization in the Municipality, Management has engaged the private sector to amass revenue from signage, masts, bill board advertising. The private sector includes; Mannet Court, Absolute Media, Raddom Company Ltd. and Regimanuel Estates.
Hon. Presiding Member, it will interest you to know that Management has resolved the unhealthy boundary issues between us and our sister assemblies, Krowor and LADMA. Thus, revenue collectors are able to do their collection peacefully at Accra Mall.
WASTE MANAGEMENT & ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION
Hon. Presiding Member, there have been periodic national sanitation and/or clean-up exercises and it has been quite successful.
Hon. Presiding Member, there has been massive construction of household toilets under the Greater Accra Metropolitan-Area Sanitation and Water Project (GAMA-SWP) in the Municipality and the response has been overwhelming. Under the GAMA project, a total of 728 household toilets out of a target of 1000 toilets were constructed in 2020. In 2021, out of a set target of 900 toilets have been constructed so far hoping to meet the targeted number by December, 2021.
The main motive of the environmental sanitation bye-laws is to ensure abatement of environmental nuisance and prosecution of offenders, of which 1,300 abatement notices have been served to indigenes who were found culpable. I will use this platform to admonish the entire Municipality to be compliant with the sanitary bye-laws.

DEVELOPMENT CONTROL
Hon. Presiding Member, Development Control remains one of the biggest challenge confronting the Assembly. Building at inappropriate sites like waterways, proposed roads, road reservations, open spaces, public user sites but a few, are quite common occurrences within the Municipality. The net effect of this phenomenon is the development of slums and inaccessible settlements.
Hon. Presiding Member, in some instances the level of encroachment is so severe that, one could hardly ride through with a motor bike on a facility supposed to be a road. Mindful of the benefits in opening up the road network, consultations have been made with stakeholders and subsequently, there has been massive removal of unauthorized structures on some of those road reservations.
In the interim, inhabitants living in and around those areas are being advised on periodic basis to cease from putting up structures on those unauthorized areas.
The Statutory Planning Committee of the Assembly of which I preside over will also ensure strict compliance.
EDUCATION
Hon. Presiding Member, Hon. Assembly Members, Departmental Heads, Ladies and Gentlemen, as you are aware, the development of every society largely depends on education. As such, the Assembly has supplied 400 furniture to the Ghana Education Service (GES). Recently, another 180 dual desks have been added on while 430 mono and 360 Dual Desks are currently being fabricated. In this regard, I wish to assure this house that I am absolutely committed to ensure that Management adequately supports Educational Authorities.
Hon. Presiding Member, The Education Sector in the Municipality experienced an increase in the enrollment especially at the Senior High School (SHS) level where the Government has instituted the free Senior High School Educational policy.
The School Feeding Program is an initiative of the Ghana Government that seeks to enhance food security, reduce hunger, poverty and mal-nutrition among school going age in Public Schools. The Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly has been fortunate to benefit from the Ghana School Feeding Program since 2007 to date. The number of public basic schools in the Municipality that are benefitting from the program is 37; these beneficiary schools are made up of four (4) Circuits. The actual total enrollment figure for the beneficiary schools in the Municipality is 10,124 served by 37 caterers.
Hon. Presiding Member, in connection with the Government’s Tertiary Scholarship Scheme, 75 students have been beneficiaries to the Tertiary level. Currently, 153 students have been interviewed and yet to benefit from the Scheme for the 2021 academic year.
Hon. Presiding Member, let me reiterate that, the Assembly is determined to assist Educational Institutions at all levels to improve on the educational standards in the Municipality.
HEALTH
Hon. Presiding Member, in the wake of the covid-19 pandemic, the Assembly has placed “veronica” buckets at vantage points in the premises and also distributed “veronica” buckets, face masks and hand sanitizers to the indigenes. The various Health Facilities in the Municipality also received Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) from the Assembly, NGOs, and Religious Bodies which in diverse ways have helped control the spread of the virus in the Municipality. The Assembly in collaboration with the Health Directorate has also embarked on various Covid-19 sensitization protocols in the Municipality.
Hon. Presiding Member, Hon. Assembly Members, Departmental Heads, Ladies and Gentlemen I will entreat all and sundry gathered here to adhere to the various Covid-19 protocols and to also educate the populace not be complacent.
Hon. Presiding Member, The National Health Insurance Scheme, which is a Government’s Social Intervention Program, has been of utmost help to the citizens in the Municipality, with a total of 37,874 people having benefitted from the Scheme.
Through the relentless effort of our Health Officials in the Municipality, Maternal Mortality rate has reduced to the barest minimum. Let me assure the house that, the Assembly will not relent on its oars but will ensure that the health delivery system receives the necessary push. We will provide basic equipment to the various public health facilities in order to make them more functional. We will strengthen our relationship with the Municipal Health Directorate and also lend our full support to all health facilities operating within the Municipality.
AGRICULTURE
Hon. Presiding Member, Agriculture remains the back bone of our economy in Ghana, hence our Municipality. Fishing remains one of the booming sectors in the Municipality. As such, Government of Ghana is constructing a Fishing Landing Site and habour. in order to boost the Fishing industry in the Municipality. Outboard motors at a reduced price have also been sold to the Fisher Folks.
Hon. Presiding Member, the Agriculture Sector since the year 2019 has been experiencing some level of improvement in the Poultry Sector and this could be attributed to the Government’s ‘rearing for food and jobs’ program undertaken in the Municipality. The challenge being faced is the transmission of Avian-Flu. Currently, two of our poultry farmers have the flu on their farms, however, these farms would be disinfected by 23rd July, 2021. It must also be noted that through the Government’s ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ intervention program, there have also been supply of improved seeds and fertilizers at subsidized rates, free extension services and marketing opportunities for farmers at large.
PHYSICAL PLANNING
Hon. Presiding Member, The Physical Planning Department has been able to digitize 2,035 streets, named 639 streets, digitized 18,939 parcels; and 16,785 parcels have also been numbered under the Street Naming and Property Address System. This has eased route finding in the Municipality.
CONCLUSION
Hon. Presiding Member, Hon. Assembly Members, Departmental Heads, Ladies and Gentlemen, I wish to commend each and every one for playing your roles tirelessly which has brought us this far. Let us not relent in the struggle towards making our Municipality a better place for our people. On this note I wish you all fruitful deliberations.
Thank you for your attention. May God bless us all.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen
It gives me great pleasure to join you today as we begin the final preparations for Ghana’s 2021 Population and Housing Census. But for the COVID-19 pandemic which afflicted the global community last year, we would have conducted the Census in March 2020. This would have been exactly 10 years since the previous one in 2010 as recommended by the United Nations. As a country, we are now all set to continue the national tradition of conducting successful censuses decennially with minimal interruptions. In view of this, Census officials have been competitively recruited and are undergoing comprehensive and skilful training to prepare them for the exercise.
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, Field data collection will commence with the listing of all structures from 13th June 2021. The Census Night is set for 27th June 2021; persons on transit and in short stay institutions such as hotels, guest houses and hospital in-patients will all be counted on the Census Night. However, the enumeration of all persons in residential household facilities as well as institutions and all other persons, will be enumerated from 28th June to 11th July 2021.
It is therefore very important for everyone to remember the Census Night because you will be counted according to where you spend the Census Night in Ghana.
Nii mei ke Naa mei,
It must be emphasised that you do not have to change your location or travel to your village or town to be enumerated. The Census process requires the Census officials to visit your place of residence and all structures to count and enumerate all persons who spend the Census Night in those structures regardless of their residence status.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The government continues to be committed to evidence-based decision making and planning in all facets of decision making in our developmental agenda. The Census will provide us with adequate data to help us measure, monitor and estimate the extent to which we have made progress on our national development agenda. Indeed, the data collected will guide us to measure the socio-economic status of our people
Ladies and Gentlemen,
In the spirit of leaving no one behind, the census shall cover all members of our society including the vulnerable and the disadvantaged members of our society, such as persons living with disabilities (PLWDs), orphans and vulnerable children, the elderly and even street families.
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen;
I therefore take this opportunity to urge all persons, both Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians who may be resident or non-resident, but may be in the Municipality on the Census Night to be ready to welcome Census officials into their communities and places of residence and provide the necessary information for their enumeration. Great efforts have been made to ensure that the Census enumerators are recruited from and within the communities they are assigned to work.
The Municipal Assembly has also taken all necessary steps to ensure that the Census goes on smoothly and in a safe and secured environment with minimum or no disruption.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Please bear with the Census officials as they go about their business and provide them with complete and accurate information. Remember, the information you provide to the Census official is strictly confidential; it will be handled only by persons who have taken the “Oath of Secrecy” under the Statistical Service Act 2019 (Act 1003).
Ladies and gentlemen,
At this time, I want to urge you all to support the Census process without any reservations. I also urge all our political and religious leaders, the business community and private sector, as well as the civil society to use their various platforms to support the Census process for the sake of our country’s progress.
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,
In conclusion, I wish to reiterate the importance of the Census for the development and growth of our society and for us to achieve our vision of a brighter future for all our people and society, The Municipal Assembly needs the data that the census will provide. Remember the Census is a very important national exercise and is done only once every decade, hence the need for us to support it fully to be successful.
With these few remarks, I declare the 30-day countdown to the 2021 Ghana Population and Housing Census officially launched.
Distinguished Guests, Nii mei ke Naa mei, Ladies and Gentlemen,
During this period until 13th June 2021 when listing starts, Census officials will continue to prepare the public to be ready to be counted appropriately through several publicity, education and advocacy activities using all available media.
Thank you for your attention and may God bless us all.
YOU COUNT, GET COUNTED.

GHANA 2021 POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS WELCOME REMARKS BY THE METROPOLITAN/ MUNICIPAL/ DISTRICT COORDINATING DIRECTOR

GHANA 2021 POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS
WELCOME REMARKS BY THE METROPOLITAN/ MUNICIPAL/ DISTRICT COORDINATING DIRECTOR
ON THE LAUNCH OF 30 DAYS TO THE 2021 POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS ON FRIDAY 28TH MAY 2021
Honourable Municipal Chief Executive
Directors and Heads of Departments
Development Partners
Representatives of Non−Governmental Organizations
Representatives of Civil Society Organizations
Members of the Media
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen
It is a great honour to be here today to welcome you to the launch of 30 days to the 2021 Population and Housing Census Night. Ghana has been fairly consistent in conducting census every 10 years since 1960 to count and understand its population size, structure and dynamics. As you are aware, population and housing censuses provide data on sex, age, births and deaths, migration, what we do for a living, where we live, the quality of our housing, and access to public services, health and education. The creation of districts, constituencies and regions by successive governments is based mainly on census data.
It is therefore worth noting that the 2021 Census will provide updated information on the population to help track progress made with regards to international, national, regional, and global development goals.
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, in view of this, the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) fully support the Census because it will address the various data gaps needed for effective planning of sectoral programmes at the district level. It is therefore reassuring that the Census will collect information on every structure, household and individual, thereby providing reliable and disaggregated data to lowest levels of administration and geography, including rural and urban differentiation. Such data are critically needed by the MMDAs for the purpose of tracking progress in particular efforts aimed at eradicating poverty and all forms of inequalities in the districts and localities.
It is gratifying that the Census data will also help to transform Ghana’s economy and spur economic development at the national, regional and district levels. Information on population growth dynamics is important and highly needed by the MMDAs in planning for education needs, where to locate health facilities, how to allocate our social expenditures and identify those who really need help in our society.
The 2021 Census data on housing conditions, household amenities and assets will be very useful to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to assess the adequacy and quality of housing and utilities as well as to determine housing tenure arrangements. Comprehensive information will also be captured on sanitation and waste management in our communities towards a cleaner environment for all.
In conclusion, the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) has supported the allocation of storage facilities in all the 272 statistical districts in the country. The MMDAs will continue to support the GSS to ensure the conduct of a successful census through the District Census Implementation Committee. We wish to assure the GSS and all Ghanaians of the full support of the MMDAs to ensure the success of the 2021 Population and Housing Census.
You Count, Get Counted.
Thank you for your attention.
