HIV SENSITIZATION DURING THE HOMOWO FESTIVAL AT LATENU
The Ledzokuku Municipal Aids Committee in collaboration with the Municipal Education Directorate and the Municipal Health Directorate held a sensitization program at Latenu on Thursday 24th August,2023 to earmark the ongoing Homowo celebration to bring HIV/AIDS to its bearest minimum in the Municipality. Key among the sensitization was Abstinence, avoiding unprotected sex, stigmatization and the need for everyone to get tested as soon as possible because the virus lives with us in our various communities.
PRESENTATION TO THE CHIEFS AND PEOPLE OF TESHIE
The presiding member of Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, Rev Richard Annang Aryeh has charged the youth of Teshie in the greater Accra Region to celebrate this year annual Homowo festival in peace.
He said for some time now, the celebration of the annual Homowo festival by the chiefs and people of Teshie is characterized by misunderstanding, confusion and fighting.
Rev Annang said this at a brief ceremony to present food items to the clans of Teshie on behalf of Ledzokuku Municipal assembly to support the Homowo celebration. He caution them that the law will deal with anyone who will engage in disturbances during the celebration.
Mr. John Tsikor,the Municipal Coordinating Director said the situation in Teshie has to do with chieftaincy issue and called for peaceful settlement of it. He said the assembly is spending a lot of money which should have gone into developmental project to maintain peace.
Mr. Tsikor therefore appealed to the Minister of Chieftancy Affairs, the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and the Regional House of Chiefs to speed up the process to resolve the dispute.
Nii Gbetsorlor, the chief of t Teshie expressed his gratitude to the assembly for the donation.
Rev Annang Aryeh was optimistic that next year Homowo celebration should be different and should not give way to security presence.

EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES: LEDZOKUKU’s NEW FRONTLINE IN DISASTER RISK REDUCTION
On August 17th and 18th, 2023, Ledzokuku witnessed a significant stride towards resilience against disasters. Two new Disaster Volunteer Groups (DVGS) were inaugurated, marking a pivotal moment in community-led disaster risk reduction.
These groups, composed of dedicated local volunteers, underwent intensive training to become adept at identifying risks, implementing prevention strategies, and leading response efforts. The training covered:
- Risk assessment techniques.
- Effective communication during disasters.
- First aid and emergency response protocols.
The inauguration of these DVGS is more than just an event; it’s a commitment by the people of Ledzokuku to take charge of their safety and well-being. These volunteers are not just responders; they are educators, innovators, and advocates for a safer community.
LeKMA HOLDS INTERNALLY GENERATED FUND(IGF) TECHNICAL COMMITTEE MEETING
An IGF technical committee meeting of the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly was held on Monday, August 14th, 2023. The meeting which took place at the Assembly Hall saw the attendance of the M.C.E, Honourable Mordecai Quarshie, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Ing. John Tsikor and some key heads of Departments and Units at the Assembly.
The matters discussed at the meeting included analytical presentation on revenue items and updates on the 2023 property rate bills.
