REJOINDER – OPERATING WITHIN LaDMA AREA OF AUTHORITY

This advertisement by the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) seeks to correct an erroneous impression created by a publication in the “Daily Graphic” and the “Ghanaian Times” editions of Monday, October 15, 2012, on pages 86 and 27 respectively by La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA).

The general public is by this rejoinder informed to disregard the said publication by LaDMA as some of the areas of authority claimed are false. Indeed Regulations, 1, 2 (4) and 5 of the Schedule which specified the areas of the Assembly in L.I. 2133, did not mention areas such as Accra Mall, Airport Hills, etc. as part of LaDMA.

Contrary to the Claim and the base Map provided, there already exist a base Map (see right) developed by the Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) which demarcates the District boundaries of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region, and this includes the eastern boundaries of LEKMA and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (A.M.A.), (out of which LaDMA was carved).

It is therefore precarious for LaDMA to assume authority over areas which were hitherto outside the jurisdiction of its parent District (i.e. A.M.A.).

We wish to give notice to the general public, especially those having residential and/or commercial facilities in areas depicted on the above base Map to ignore LaDMA and desist from having any dealings with them in respect of payment of rates, licences, fees etc. as prescribed in Local Government Act. 1993, Act 462.

‘OUR POLITICAL OPONENTS ARE NOT OUR ENEMIES’

The Municipal Chief Executive of Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA), Hon. Seth Badu -Tawiah, said his party’s political opponents are not their enemies and for him, political parties are basically development oriented entities seeking the mandate of Ghanaians to rule and develop the country probably via different strategies. Hon. Badu-Tawiah was speaking at Ghana’s 59th Independence Day Anniversary celebration at the Royal Park in Nungua on Sunday March 6th, 2016.
This year’s Independence Day anniversary celebration was under the theme ‘INVESTING IN THE YOUTH FOR GHANA’S TRANSFORMATION. In all, 1,232 students and pupils from 28 basic schools, 5 second cycle schools and 56 teachers were drawn from the Municipality.
Hon. Badu -Tawiah together with the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Yaw Fosu Danquah and other dignitaries inspected the parade. In his welcome address, Mr. Fosu Danquah, quoting the words of the First Lady of Ghana, Her Excellency Mrs. Lordina Mahama said, “the future of every country depends on the activeness of its youth’. According to him, the youth need to be empowered by ensuring that they are equipped to fully seize all the opportunities that surround them.
Touching on the theme for the celebration, Hon. Badu -Tawiah said it was laudable, timely and very appropriate. In his opinion, the theme should be considered a big challenge for government, parents, caretakers, teachers and the society as a whole to consciously train and build the capacities of the youth now so as to prepare them for leadership positions in the future to socially and economically transform the country.
